building a mid-level managerial backbone
Rapid success can be a company killer. As company scale beyond their first 100-200 employees, especially when this includes the establishment of offices in various global locations, managerial span of control becomes a key factor in its ability to support it growth (and certainly it’s hyper growth). Therefore, it is crucially important to make sure that a mid-level managerial back-bone is put in place that can link the company’s founders and executive leadership team with the junior level employees at the “base” of the company and ensure that there is a clear flow from strategy to execution. We call this mid-level managerial layer the Company Leadership Forum (CLF).
Establish a company-wide managerial “back bone” in the form of a mid-level management forum called the WalkME Leadership Forum (WLF). The purpose of this initiative is to (a) break down operational solos and drive better cross departmental alignment, cooperation and coordinated execution of the business strategy formulated by the ELT; (b) increase the number of strategic initiatives the company can successfully drive within its current operational capacity; (c) increase the company’s potential for internally driven leadership succession; (d) level of engagement in this forum’s periodical activities.
✓ Reduced friction / improved synergy between members of this forum that serve as critical interfaces of one another on a daily operational level (less escalations to the company’s President and CEO, shorter processes cycles, higher quality deliverables, etc).
✓ Internal forum branding – a growing demand by others to meet the criteria for qualifying to join this forum.
✓ Number and quality of the cross organizational initiatives thought up and led by groups of forum members.
✓ Improved employee satisfaction (ESAT) pertaining to their direct managers who are part of this forum.
✓ Longer retention of the top talents who are members of this forum.
✓ Improved reviews of the members of this forum by their managers.
✓ Leadership succession – a meaningful growth in the number of suitable candidates for more senior positions in the company among “alums” of this forum.
